Assignment #4: Critical thinking #2

Name Mberwa, Mberwa S                                                                                           Class time: 11:00AM
KEEP THIS TO 1-3 – PAGES LONG (excluding reference page)

Author: Sara Baase
Date of Publication:
Book: GIFT OF FIRE
Sections read: Atrials

1.       (Knowledge)Tell three interesting elements of this chapter:
a.       Miranda was suspended from school because she said I love you in her native languages
b.      Miranda was also suspended  from her basketball game just for talking to a classmate
c.

2.       (Comprehension) Summarize what is being discussed within this chapter?
This atrial is about a kid who upset the white lady because the kid speaks   form languages in the classroom. The child is many difficulty to deal with i think that is why the teacher don't like her. the only thing we know as a reader is that the child was throw out because  the was talk in other language instated of speaking English, but we all know  that there is more to it is not just about the language that she speak in the class room.

3.       (Application)Name a specific example or NEW solution for this type of problem/similar situation in society or that you have experienced – be specific and explain?

All students in school should be able to speak English no other languages because students go to schools to learned English. If student don’t speak English how would they learned to speak the languages or understand something in English.  By speaking English in the classrooms out will allowed students to improve their skills and help them to become more fluent in the English languages?

4.       (Analysis)Address ANY that apply. How can you compare one of the situations in this chapter to something that does not relate to computers, technology, or the Internet? Be sure to reference the chapter and your solution. What ideas NEW can you add to the issue that is being presented within the reading? Try to connect what you have by reading this article and how it applies to the stages in Bloom's taxonomy in 2 full sentences.

I would like to add to this issue that no one should be throw out of class because the speak some other language unless the student is really being difficulty in the class room while the teacher is trying to teach and the student is talking to his/her classmate during class. Other than that teacher can't throw student out because they speak different language.

5.       (Synthesis) Address all that apply. Do you agree with what is being said within the article (Why/Why not? Back up with FACTS)?  What new conclusions can you draw about this (or other topics) after reading this material?

I agree with this atrial for what has been said because when students who English are their scorned languages they should try to speak English not their native languages, but I don’t agree on their action or what the teachers did to Miranda. Teachers shouldn’t suspend Miranda from school because she didn’t speak English.

6.       (Evaluation) Address all that apply. Judge whether or not this topic is relevant in today’s society? Evaluate why you are viewing the topic in this manner based on your experiences. What ethical evaluations (see Chap1-1.4 for exp of Ethics) or decisions were made/can be assumed from this chapter?  What new ideas will you make after reading this chapter?
This topic is still happening in today society we have students who are second languages in English and if you walk in the class room you will see almost everyone in the classroom are non-English speaker. They can’t learn English because they all speak the same languages there is no way that they would speak English in the classroom to each other because they don’t understand English.

GMO's: Assignment 1

Remember when you were a tour guide for an Alien? The Alien is back and wants to understand what a GMO is. Explain this information to the Alien.  Is a food production mixes many food or making food to grow fast by using technology in which they make thins worst when human eat the foods, that is why we have so many people who have cancer in this country than any others country in the world, people are getting sick due to the things we put instead of growing natural without using any of the bad food to make with the new one millions of children in this country are overweight or obesity because we couldn’t control the food industry. The question that how long will we go to keep kill people that we care about, most of us think that we are all different  but are not because we are all human after all we have blood flowing in our body so how can we think in others ways to make life better than before.
Is a process where genes from DNA of one species are extracted and artificially forced into the genes of an unrelated plant or animal?  This is involves the transfer of genes, GMOs are also known as transgenic organisms. Their methods include
·         Using viruses or bacteria to "infect" animal or plant cells with the new DNA.
·         Coating DNA onto tiny metal pellets, and firing it with a special gun into the cells.
·         Injecting the new DNA into fertilized eggs with a very fine needle.
·         Using electric shocks to create holes in the membrane covering sperm, and then forcing the new DNA into the sperm through these holes.
 http://www.ornl.gov/sci/techresources/Human_Genome/elsi/gmfood.shtm
2)   State the controversy associated with GMO’s.
Potential human health impacts, including allergens, transfer of antibiotic resistance markers, unknown effects. Potential environmental impacts, including: unintended transfer of transgenic through cross-pollination, unknown effects on other organisms (e.g., soil microbes), and loss of flora and fauna biodiversity

3)  What are people’s reactions to GMO are different in various regions of the world?
Consumer advocates say they worry about labeling for genetically engineered beef, pork and other fish, which are lining up behind the salmon for federal approval. Many of the people didn't like the G.M.O because is taking someone DNA and put it into somethings else which has nothing to do with it. For example we take fish DNA and put into tomatoes, the next thing you know it will be human DNA  being put into met so that we will not need  to use freezer. Some study even shows that food that have been G.M.O can cause cancer and we wounder why we have so many sick people in the United State than any other country in the would.
4)    What’s your reaction to this topic?

I was kind of surprising when I found out that the FDA don’t required to labeling for GMO product  conventional food makers say the FDA has made it difficult for them to boast that their products do not contain genetically modified ingredients. In some way I felt that the government does not care us to choose what food to eat  that is why they don’t label  food that contain GMO.

5)    Can GMO’s be changed?  Should they be changed?  No GMO  can’t be change because is hold by powerful people who work with the government on the other hands yes  it should be change because it bring a lots of problems in the country. Non chemicals use in the food it lead t a better life for young people and the old people in the world and who wouldn’t went to live longer.
Explain with references.
6) While reading "Institute for Responsible Technology. GMO Basics (Also explore at least two of the other tabs on this page:http://www.responsibletechnology.org/gmo-basics
“What were the two tabs that you explored? How did the information presented affect what you thought about GMO's? I found out that more than 80% of the food we eat have been Genetically modified and we don't even know it because the FDA tried GMO food just like any other food in the market when they  not the same. Many people support the labeling but the FDA does not require labeling for GMO product, therefore consumers can't choose between GMO food and others because they all look the same you can't tall which one is which without the labeling.

7)   Typing out the exact quote from any of the readings (and referencing it) list one powerful statement that you read.before the FDA decided to allow GMOs into food without labeling, FDA scientists had repeatedly warned that GM foods can create unpredictable, hard-to-detect side effects, including allergies, toxins, new diseases, and nutritional problems.
Put the statement in context and explain why this statement was powerful enough to remember, This statement is powerful because it was study by scientists who know the impact that G.M.O food have in human, because even if you get sick doctors can't tall  what cause the illness.

1.       (Knowledge)Tell three interesting elements of this chapter:
a.
b.
c.

2.       (Comprehension) Summarize what is being discussed within this chapter?

Technology has taking away human work, and most of our works are oversea. Technology  has also took away banks taller jobs, now everything is done through computer there is no need to drive  to the banks and waiting in the line  to speak to a customer service  representative; when you can do it at your home. Therefore most of American jobs are move to other country because is cheaper and companies they don’t have health insurance or other expansive that they would have to pay here in the United State. Computer has eliminated a variety of jobs than any single new technological advance in the past years. Forrester research has estimate that 3,3million white collar jobs will have left the U.S for other country (Baase Pg316-21).

3.       (Application)Name a specific example or NEW solution for this type of problem/similar situation in society or that you have experienced – be specific and explain?

A new solution for this type of problems is to pass a law that would not allowed companies to move away from the united stated. We need to educated people what they need to know about the new jobs, because most of the people they don’t know anything about technology and how it work. People think that technology is taking away jobs but technology is not the problem we are the problem because we human are one who make the choice of how we need to use it.  Technology can be good or bad depending how we use it, if people are losing jobs is not because of technology  is because the invention of technology now people are think different it may have to do with technology  but is the people make bad choice, we use technology as an excuse for our problems in life.   For example millions of people in the United State die due to a car accident, people said because of   technology how about the person who was driving the car he/her mad a choice to drive the care didn’t make choice. It’s the same thing with jobs (Baase Pg322-24).

Technology  has reduce  the employment  in the United Sated , but computer technology  didn’t cause mass of unemployment for those who continually predict mass unemployment  they only see the old preexisting jobs that are lost. For example we can compare this situation to the great depression in 1930s, during the 1930s there was no technology and millions of people were not working people lost their home and very thing they had. How come we don’t say that it was technology who took the work for the people in 1930s?  Technology didn’t cause the great depression in the 1930 economist and historian attributes the depression to many things such the choice make about our money or federal reserve banks  inept manipulation of interest rates (Baase pg312-13)

5.       (Synthesis) Address all that apply. Do you agree with what is being said within the article (Why/Why not? Back up with FACTS)?  What new conclusions can you draw about this (or other topics) after reading this material?

I don’t agree with this chapter because technology is not the cause of job lost in this country.
Is the people who cause job elimination because they have a choice and we build the technology therefore technology is not responsible is the people who make bad choice.

6.       (Evaluation) Address all that apply. Judge whether or not this topic is relevant in today’s society? Evaluate why you are viewing the topic in this manner based on your experiences. What ethical evaluations (see Chap1-1.4 for exp of Ethics) or decisions were made/can is assumed from this chapter?  What new ideas will you make after reading this chapter?

This topic very much relevant in today’s society, because most of the people in America today don’t have jobs  people are having difficulty  on pay the bills at home due to a limited job in the United states. Today software makes decisions that use to require trained thinking human beings. For example computer programs analyze loan application and decide which one to approve. Computer take over many of the professional jobs.  It will take about 100 hours in a high paying job for human to design a layout for new housing developments, when a computer can do the same job within half an hours.  My  new idea after reading  this  chapter is that don’t let technology  tell you what you can and can’t do in your life we being living on earth  for century without technology we need to stand up and do  thing the way we use to without technology.

2. (Comprehension) Summarize what is being discussed within this chapter?

This article is about computer hackers, or people who take other people property and how it affect the people who spend hours working and hacker just come and take it a way.

3. (Application)Name a specific example or NEW solution for this type of problem/similar situation in society or that you have experienced – be specific and explain?

Fourteen people were arrested Tuesday for allegedly mounting a cyberattack on the website of PayPal in retaliation for its suspending the accounts of WikiLeaks FBI agents executed more than 35 search warrants around the country in an ongoing investigation into coordinated cyberattacks against major companies and organizations. It's really hard to arrest 30,000 people with evidence that is rock solid "Maybe I would get arrested, but my neighbor was using my Wi-Fi and the authorities thought I was running the software, but it's really my neighbor or even someone driving by in their car." people always have an excuse so they can get way with things. Computers hackers are the most difficulty issue to resolve in world wind, because it could be anybody in the world trying to get into the system.

A new solution for this problem is to limit all Wi- fi access in the neighbor only people who have password should allowed to use the internet and if there is a problem they should be responsible for their action.

.

Computers hackers Compare to Robbery, people have found an easy way to still money to other people. Is much easy to hackers into the system than showing up in person to still. Thief use to robbery a bank and get in the get away car , and the police would be able to track them if someone saw what kid car it was and their plate number of the car. In today world everything is done by electronic therefor there is no need to robbery a company in person when you can do it on the computer. the only solution for this kind problem is to make sure we keep safe our personal information and have a security for every site we use.

5. (Synthesis) Address all that apply. Do you agree with what is being said within the article (Why/Why not? Back up with FACTS)? What new conclusions can you draw about this (or other topics) after reading this material?

I agree with what is being said in this article, because people who are over the law should be taking in punishment for their actions. Hacking into someone banking or property is crime they don't have the right to break in people property, therefor they should be punish for what they done to people. illegal computer use should not to allowed in any ways, most of people in the United State are in dangerous of identity lost due to illegal activities that people are doing online. "The pursuit of cybercriminals is complicated by the fact that the Internet affords considerable anonymity to its users".

This topic is relevant in today society, because internet use has become physical to the world. The ethics chose is avoid them and save the personal information in privacy location. Many of people are losing their found because of computer hacking. Technology has increase the problems we are having in the world to day when technology was not around back in the days things were not as bad compare to today problems.

2. (Comprehension) Summarize what is being discussed within this chapter?

The future is a full of surprise most of the web use are unplanned and unexpected.hackers can steal a hug databases of personal information without us knowing.
3. (Application)Name a specific example or NEW solution for this type of problem/similar situation in society or that you have experiencedbe specific and explain?
A new solution to this type problems to build a system that will work for everybody from dangerous hacking. nowadays hacking is so easy even a 13years old can get into the system and due a great impact on it. hacking can be good and bad it depend on the person who have the techniques, even the good intention could make a mistake and cause a significant damage accidentally almost all of the hackers are form of trespassing. for example a hackers group in Russia and Ukraine broke into more than 40 online business and stole more than a million credit card numbers . The use of internet has made more problem around the world than before. We live in a society that depend everything on technology we even forget the reality and the damage we are cause on earth.Pg260 – be specific and explain?
Hackers and robbery are the the most dangerous people on earth because they steal what ever you have and make money out of it. Back in the day thief will go to the bank and robbery and get a way with cars , to day everything is done to computers therefore they don't have to leave the house in which make the police hard to find them. Technology has increase the issue of people being robbery because once someone knows your credit card you are done unless you note it before it's too late. Even if you have security you can never be 100% safe.
5. (Synthesis) Address all that apply. Do you agree with what is being said within the article (Why/Why not? Back up with FACTS)? What new conclusions can you draw about this (or other topics) after reading this material?
I agree with what has been said in this chapter because hacking is trespassing someone else property and that person should be responsible for any damage he/she may be done for the cause of the property. For example in2007 a hacker planted a password stealing programs on the web sites of the supper bowl teams.Pg261
This kind of topic is relevant in today society because big business are being broken by theft stealing people money in their bank . The only chose we have is not use internet but that wouldn't be the cause because we love technology so much we will put our life in dangerous. People should know that hacking into someone else system is wrong and crime unless they have the permission to do so by the owner. We should also have a system that don't allowed people where they shouldn't be there in the first place.

Intellectual property Part2

KEEP THIS TO 1-3 – PAGES LONG (excluding reference page)
Author: Sara Baase
Date of Publication:
Book: A GIFT OF FIRE
Sections read:4.1-4.4
1. (Knowledge)Tell three interesting elements of this chapter:
a.
b.
c.
2. (Comprehension) Summarize what is being discussed within this chapter?
People should not take other people works without their permission, and no one would like if someone came to your house and take something without you knowing. Intellectual property means that it;s someone idea and no body can take it away without asking for permission.
3. (Application)Name a specific example or NEW solution for this type of problem/similar situation in society or that you have experienced?
A new solution for this problem is to limited what we put on the internet so it wouldn't be as easy to copy someone else work without them knowing. if people keep taking others work without pay the people who are doing the work and they are not getting pay they can't produce anymore work because no one is paying them for their ideas and hard work. A big issues for this problem is the advance of technology in the world because technology make the every thing easy to get.

4. (Analysis)Address ANY that apply. How can you compare one of the situations in this chapter to something that does not relate to computers, technology, or the Internet? Be sure to reference the chapter and your solution. What ideas NEW can you add to the issue that is being presented within the reading? 5. (Synthesis) Address all that apply. Do you agree with what is being said within the article (Why/Why not? Back up with FACTS)? What new conclusions can you draw about this (or other topics) after reading this material?
I agree with what has been said this chapter, because people work should be protect with the law. Many of us wouldn't like it to work for free, their is no one would work for free in this world everyone want to get money on the things they have done. The question why are we doing to others for something that we wouldn't like? In conclusions the internet should make difficulty for people trying to copy somethings without paying for it and they should put a fine print that tells people what are the outcome if they copy something without permission.
This topic is very relevant in today society not many people go to the store and buy movies or music because they can just go online and get it for free. There no one would go to the store buy movies when they can go on the computer and get what they want at no cost. what we don't realized we are stilling other people property copying and sharing information about others and not asking their permission to do so.
